Scholarship Information 2020

The SWANA Mid-Atlantic Chapter is a believer in supporting the higher education goals of today's youth. The Chapter offers college scholarships to eligible students working toward undergraduate or graduate college degrees. In addition, the Chapter will submit the application of the most-qualified, eligible candidate for the Grant H. Flint Scholarship Awards Program administered by SWANA International.

Deadline to apply for the scholarships is May 1, 2020.

Chapter scholarship application forms were revised to be in line with the new 2020 SWANA scholarship updates. The Chapter Scholarships support the young people in their ongoing education. Among the changes you will see:

  • Students can join two (2) chapters for free. Category II and III students apply to the chapter where their school is located because that is where the student's primary chapter affiliation exists in order to be eligible for a SWANA International scholarship. These applicants must also be a student chapter member in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter if they wish to be eligible for a Mid-Atlantic Chapter scholarship.
  • The applications no longer require official copies of the ACT and SAT scores. Applicants may now submit official or unofficial copies, if they took the tests. If the results are going to be provided, the material should be in the initial application to the chapter.
  • The Scholarship Committee will now use updated evaluation criteria that vary by application level based on the group's understanding of what is meaningful to success at various scholastic levels.
  • The application forms are much clearer about what is REQUIRED and what is OPTIONAL throughout, and also provides a checklist at the end for applicant use.

The deadline for student applications to be submitted to the chapters is May 1, 2020. The deadline for the chapters to send details about chapter winners (one eligible nominee at each level) on for consideration by the International Scholarship Committee is June 1, 2020.

2019 Chapter Scholarship Recipient

The Mid-Atlantic Chapter received one application for the 2019 Scholarship Program. Ipsita Kaushlendra Singh Tingi received a very high score by the Chapter Evaluation Committee and will be awarded a well deserving $2,000 George L. Winfield Memorial Chapter Scholarship Award.

As a Category 1 winner, Ipsita plans to major in Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University. She is sponsored by her father, Dr. Kaushlendra Singh, who is a Chapter member and Associate Professor of Biofuels and Bioenergy at the School of Natural Resources, Davis College West Virginia University.
